Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Water Industry Project Manager with a strong background in the UK Water Industry to lead the successful delivery of infrastructure, capital investment, and operational improvement projects.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing projects through the full lifecycle, ensuring programme, cost, quality, safety, environmental, and stakeholder requirements are met. This role requires a proactive leader with experience working within regulated environments and delivering projects under water utility frameworks.
Key Responsibilities
Project Delivery
- Define project scope, objectives, and deliverables in collaboration with clients and stakeholders.
- Develop, maintain, and control project programmes and schedules.
- Manage project budgets, forecasts, and financial performance.
- Administer contracts under NEC3 and NEC4 forms of contract.
- Manage change control processes and compensation events.
- Produce regular progress, cost, risk, and performance reports.
- Ensure project delivery is aligned with client objectives and business requirements.
- Drive programme development and management throughout the project lifecycle.
- Monitor and control project costs, including target cost management.
Health, Safety, and Environmental Management
- Lead the implementation of Construction Phase Plans.
- Ensure compliance with CDM Regulations 2015 and all relevant legislation.
- Oversee risk assessments, hazard identification, and mitigation activities.
- Conduct contractor competency and compliance reviews.
- Manage incident reporting, investigation, and corrective actions.
- Promote and lead a positive safety culture across all project teams.
- Undertake Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) reviews.
- Ensure alignment with client safety standards and requirements.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement across project delivery activities.
Stakeholder Management
- Lead stakeholder engagement activities throughout project delivery.
- Chair project meetings and client progress reviews.
- Manage project communications and reporting.
- Resolve conflicts and competing stakeholder priorities.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships.
- Coordinate effectively with:
- Environment Agency
- Local Authorities
- Ofwat
- Landowners
- Local Communities
- Framework Partners
- Supply Chain Organisations
Key Requirements
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a Project Management role within the UK Water Industry.
- Proven track record delivering major infrastructure, utilities, or capital investment projects.
- Experience administering NEC3 and NEC4 contracts.
- Strong programme and budget management experience.
- Demonstrated experience managing project risks and change control processes.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Experience working within regulated environments and utility frameworks.
- Strong leadership, organisation, and problem-solving abilities.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to project sites as required.

- Ability to obtain an Airport Airside pass
Technical Knowledge & Understanding
The successful candidate should have a strong understanding of:
- Environmental permitting processes.
- Planning approvals and statutory consents.
- Water quality requirements and standards.
- Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA).
- Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) requirements.
- Carbon reduction and sustainability objectives.
- Regulatory obligations under Environment Agency and Ofwat frameworks.
- UK water sector legislation and compliance requirements.
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
- Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related discipline.
- APMP, Prince2, or equivalent project management qualification.
- IOSH Managing Safely or NEBOSH certification.
- Membership of a relevant professional body (APM, ICE, CIWEM, or equivalent).
- Experience working within AMP programmes and water utility frameworks.
